“The Harlequin” considered as a group of powerful vampires comes back to the land without proper notice. A team of supreme vampires was created long ago when there was nothing in the world. The band was created to establish law and order in the vampire world so that no vampire can slip away from the right track. Because of some reason, that group of ancient vampires has now gone rogue and they are coming for Jean. Anita looks aware of what is coming to her life and for this reason, she calls for help as well but gets a poor response from her lover this time.
Knowing the true purpose of the ancient ones looks necessary but there is a little problem i.e, not even the vampires fully know about the birth of this elite group. Most powerful ones in the clans decide to hide rather than trying to confront the darkness that has fallen on the land. Laurell K. Hamilton has tried to go to the origin of the vampire world this time because of some reasons the story never reached the core.
The author talks about it at the start and then later she starts telling us about Anita’s situation instead of the origin of the vampire band. Stories were never left in between like this one, books like Cerulean Sins and Incubus Dreams had complete scenes. According to some the author perhaps has saved the conclusion of “The Harlequin” for the later parts and here the motive was to introduce the whole thing. No doubt it is awesomely written but some more details would have been better especially about Anita’s future in the current scenario.
