Frank started the whole thing many years back and it was after the death of the author that his son Brian Herbert started creating more of the Dune series stories. The stories are not purely the creation of author’s imagination rather he has taken help from the rough notes which his father has left behind. Still one cannot take these stories as a second rank thing because all of these books are just marvellous.
Kevin J. Anderson has also helped Brian in this episode and together they have created another masterpiece for the Dune series. Scott Brick has narrated many other parts of this series so he has not been replaced here as well. In the previous books of the series that were written by Frank, there was a history that was linked to a great war between the humans and machines.
The author gave hints of that war but never talked about it in detail. Brian and Anderson decided to give that war a detailed attention through this part of the series. The humans were made slaves by strange kind of machines that possessed the capability to think.
Those machines really pounded every human with the pestle of authority and then Serena Butler decided to step up for the sake of mankind. Serena’s struggle for the human race can be seen in Dune: The Machine Crusade and Dune: The Battle of Corrin along with this one. It is not a one man show because the girl makes a proper team to start a war and then leads all of them to glory. Several lives are lost but the humans don’t back down from the challenge on this occasion.
