Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 stars)
Trigger Warning: This book contains dark and disturbing content that may not be suitable for all readers. Please exercise caution.
This book is intended for mature adults aged 21 and above, and it is crucial to take the trigger warnings seriously. It delves into a deep and intense dark stalker romance with elements of a murder mystery. Numerous darker themes are explored, and as a reader, it is essential to be aware of what you’re stepping into. I disagree with the negative reviews solely based on readers being unprepared for the disturbing and dark content.
I am giving this book a 4-star rating because the plot and story are highly intriguing. Additionally, the cliffhanger at the end left me on the edge of my seat. Some of the sexual content was challenging for me to read since I don’t find stalkers appealing. However, Zade’s character gradually grew on me as the book progressed, even though I still struggled with accepting the romance. The inclusion of Adaline’s great grandmother’s murder added an exciting element to the plot. Her journal entries were captivating, and it was refreshing to see Adaline’s character portrayed with more depth beyond just being a target of her stalker.
I would not recommend reading this book at night, as it can become spooky and eerie, potentially resulting in unsettling dreams. Consider yourself warned!

I’ll preface my review by saying that I might be a bit biased because I’ve been searching for this exact book (not literally, but figuratively) for MONTHS. I can’t understand some of the reviews I’ve read. Yes, there are triggers; we get it, but everyone can decide whether to read it or not. People seem overly focused on that aspect for a book that openly states it is not for the faint of heart.
The reviews claiming that this book contains actual rape… the line is blurry, but I’ve listened to books with such content, and it did not feel the same as listening to this book. It wasn’t triggering for me, but that’s just me. Adeline stops running for the hills or calling the cops after he reveals himself, and it feels more like a game between them. Adeline feels obligated to respond the way she should, but it’s important to note that she wants to respond positively to him rather than negatively, regardless of society’s expectations in such a situation. That’s my take on it, and I’ve read many books with dubious consent or no consent at all. Compared to those, this one didn’t make me uncomfortable regarding consent.
ANYWAY, this is an excellent dark romance with a stalker and his prey, kinky play, and an undiluted adrenaline rush that comes from being both terrified by a man and turned on by him simultaneously. I love these kinds of books, and this one is probably one of the best ones I’ve ever read or listened to. Everything about it had me on the edge of my seat! It’s like the author created a book just for me, using my own personality as Adeline’s. She and I are so similar, it’s crazy, and I love it. She’s a sassy, non-nonsense kind of woman who knows her worth and isn’t ashamed of who she is. The last three books I’ve read had overly submissive, nearly brain-dead females as the main characters, and I am so sick of it. It would take them an entire book or even a whole series to develop a backbone, and it was purely credited to the man in their lives. So this book was a breath of fresh air!
Not only that, but the recent writing in many dark romance books… it’s been awful, in my opinion. The cringe-worthy lines I’ve heard have caused me to roll my eyes and stop listening to books because they were just that stupid and uncomfortable. This one is not like any of those. In my opinion, the writing is captivating. The sexy scenes make you blush just listening to them, and they never feel cringy in any way. I might be putting this book on a pedestal, but I can’t find it in myself to care. I’m just so glad I found this book. It was exactly what I wanted and had been looking for but couldn’t find until now.
Lastly, I talked about Adeline, but I have to mention that “Shadow” is also an excellent character. Well fleshed-out, with just the right mix of darkness and light. Not quite a jerk, but not nice either—I love it all! The narration too… Teddy Hamilton has always been excellent, but gosh, he’s stellar in this book
