It’s funny how people behave in front of the police and criminal even when no crime has taken place. Such an incident takes place in Fredrik Backman’s funny but full of satire novel where a bank robber fails in his mission. The robber was planning to rob the biggest bank in the town but somehow he failed in pulling up the job in time.
Running and hiding from the police the criminal comes into a house with strange people. Everyone living in this house has a mysterious life which he or she has been hiding from the world for ages. After becoming hostage at gunpoint the hosts start revealing themselves.
There is a couple who is expecting a child but the plans of this couple are still grim. They just cannot agree on one single thing since the day they got married. Then there is an eighty-seven years old lady who behaves quite amazingly in front of the robber. The strangest character is the one who locks himself in the bathroom of the house in this alarming situation.
As there is only one bathroom in the house so this situation also hurts the hostages. Some try to help the robber and then some want to get him hanged for his ill doings. Marin Ireland narrates the police situation alarmingly and it is strange to see how people panic when nothing is happening on the scene.
Like A Man Called Ove and My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry the story does not go up or down. One thing that begins in the first chapter continues till the end of the last chapter. Subplots or twisty actions don’t exist in the author’s works, there are certain revelations from the past but they are not of such type which would change the course of the story.
