The story is based on the true incident and thus shares an emotional history in which the Memphis-based adoption center used to destroy the lives of poor and helpless children under the veil of kindness. The helpless children were sold to rich people or whoever wanted them for their evil desires of any sort. Sometime when the organization needed children for the fulfillment of their criminal activity it used to kidnap children from their houses and after that, the children were told false stories about their parents that never came to take them away with them. The year is 1939 which is the original year when the incident took place.
The story moves from past to present and then from present to past. Rill a twelve-year-old girl thrown into the orphanage after a terrible accident that destroyed her dream world and in the orphanage she encounters terrible truths that scared her to death. Rill’s main objective was to keep her sisters and brother with her all the time in order to save them from the deadly fangs of the orphanage staff.
The present-day tells us about another girl with a perfect life, Avery Stafford possesses everything that a girl dreams of but still, there is a past connection which would reveal her terrifying history that would rip his life apart. Emily Rankin and Catherine Taber have done a wonderful job in narrating the tale which has tragedy and high emotional drama. Everything is described while keeping the intensity of the situation in mind. The story depicts very clearly the evil plots of humans against helpless children which is there till the present day.
