Kate Atkinson has a habit of writing mysteries such as this one where the crime scene shocks everyone present around. Later the listener comes to know that those who were present around the crime scene were actually linked to it in some odd way.

When Will There Be Good News?  is an example of author’s talent in the field of mystery, this novel too starts with a bang. Jackson Brodie was once the top gun of the town but now he is not that cop or detective anymore, in his old age he has settled in life and with ample to spend he has no worries. That’s why on a beautiful evening he is not wasting his time in investigating cases that are not his duty anymore; rather he is standing outside a theater to watch his favorite show.

Thus it is not he who runs into a case this time rather the case runs into him. An incident of severe rage makes Jackson come out of retirement because he is one of the prime witnesses. The rest of the witnesses include a list of ladies, each one of those ladies has a story linked to it. For Jackson anyone of these ladies including a police officer, a Russian girl, a novelist and the wife of a rich man could be the cause of the incident.

    One Good Turn

Investigation is launched in an old school pattern and the old master detective has not come back for a failure. In the voice of Steven Crossley the audience listens to the detailed questions and inspection that Jackson makes. Not much action in the thriller but the inspection session is worth to listen to.
