Erle himself was a lawyer and not an ordinary one he was one of the best criminal lawyers of his time and that’s why he in his stories has always remained successful in describing the whole crime scenes in the fullest. The proceeding of the court is also described in such an original way that one cannot just read it without appreciating it all the way.
The story has suspense, action and also with a tale of blackmailing that moves along with the original story. The story opens with the description of Eva Griffin who is indulged in an illicit relationship with a highly famous congressman who could do anything to hide his affair for the sake of his reputation and status. The introduction of the sleazy tabloid also reveals the organizations that secretly works in cities in order to blackmail the rich for the sake of easy money.
Perry Manson this time wants to reach the source first so that he can catch the whole network that is working on such a hideous agenda but as he tries to reach the source he comes to know of a secret that proves to be too big for him to handle. He himself gets stuck in a murder case that he never committed and that was all weaved around him to stop him from further investigation.
