T.J. Klune started the series with Sam as an individual who was not aware of the world of magic. He wanted to live a neat and clean life which was not granted to him at any point in life. When he started using his powers, he thought that he would be able to tame his life to some extent and he did tackle the situation quite well.
Then one monster after another just kept on coming into Sam’s life and he never got ample opportunity to rest and enjoy peace. Following the Great White into the Dark Woods was the last big decision that Sam took and now on his return, he sees different surprises for which he was never ready.
The City of Lockes is not the same anymore because the place has been changed into a dungeon for innocent souls. The Dark wizard Myrin has taken over in Sam’s absence and there is nothing anyone can do about it at this stage. Michael Lesley narrates a confused Sam in this new episode because he gets frustrated on his return to his homeland.
His friends however still manage to keep the resistance alive in his absence which provides a sign of hope like in The House in the Cerulean Sea and The Lightning-Struck Heart. In a very short time, Sam loses everything for which he worked and watches his enemies as they grow in power.
The only hope he has been left with is the presence of his friends. With the help of his friends, he starts the battle from the beginning and hopes that the result would not be the same on this occasion.
