The Family Chao is a fictional novel. It is written by Lan Samantha Chang. She is an American author of fictional novels and short stories. Apart from the subject novel, Inheritance is another superb book that Lan Samantha Chang has written. Hunger is another novel from the same author which deserves your attention.

The audio narration of The Family Chao novel is done by Brian Nishii. The narrator made it a wonderful listen with his impactful performance that suited well with the characters.

The residents of Haven were known to dine on the superbly delicious Americanized Chinese food of the Fine Chao Restaurant for 35 long years. They were quite satisfied to ignore any of the unsavory whispers that were about the family owners. But when the charismatic, brash, and tyrannical patriarch named Leo was found dead then his sons found that they have drawn the demanding stare of the entire town.

The Family Chao

The trial surfaced up the potential motives of the three brothers. The first brother was Dagou who was the reckless head chef of that Chinese restaurant. Ming was the second one who was personally tortured but financially very sound. The third and last brother was James who was a gentle but kind of lost college student.

It is a well-written story where the first half might be a bit slow and dragged on with character development and story building but then it got better. The author and then the narrator did a fantastic job of capturing the complexities of the characters. The listeners will find this novel brimming with comedy, heartbreak, and intense suspense and all of that will make this an amazing audiobook experience.
