Giles Kristian has always taken the audience to the past because this was something that impressed the author too since the start of their career. The ninth century England has fascinating stories attached to it, though the stories are not true their impact on the mind is never lost. Kristian paints two characters who are brave veterans and they are not looking for fame rather the two happen to be in search of wealth.
Jarl and his trusted partner have taken part in many heroic deeds and their main motive on every occasion has been wealth and nothing else. Though they are not cowards they are looking for a peaceful life in the coming years which can be achieved only if they have ample wealth. Simon Prebble narrates the character of a boy after discussing these two characters. Osric happens to be an orphan and he is looking for a family that can keep him forever. When the boy meets these two warriors he finally sees in them the company of a family which he was looking for.
Osric does not care whether the two warriors are going on a deadly tour or not because he needs their company and he is willing to provide their company to the end of the world. Relations weren’t easy to understand in Winter’s Fire and Wings of the Storm so the listeners have to toil hard in this one as well. Complicated scenes and twists of fate can be understood only if you are focusing on the story completely and are not thinking about an ending of your own. The three characters have unique personalities and the one thing which they have in common is love.
