The masterstroke opens the long series about vampires, assassins, and the undead by Jeaniene Frost. The story originally starts from the second book of the series Halfway to the Grave here the author mixes up several stories in one. The main motive of creating this masterpiece was to present before the audience the characters that they are going to see in the books to come. An introduction is made but it is not a deep introduction that would have all the links to the past and relations to one another.

The book is shorter in length as compared to Bound by Flames but has the much-needed spices in the fight scenes. Bones get introduced first as an immortal that stands against the undead in their savage killing. The undead has brought havoc in New Orleans as they destroy one life and then the other. Bones of course are not like the other people of the town who would run away from such creatures. The immortal warrior starts eradicating the undead so that they might never come to the human world again.

    Reckoning

Frost has not talked about Catherine much in this part and that’s why Bones work in a carefree nature as he is attracted to no one and he cares for nothing. Night Huntress is yet to emerge in her full daring appearance but the talk about her is present in the scenes. Tavia Gilbert does not use any whispering tone or all that stuff during narration because there was not much suspense in the introductory part. But suspense and mystery are expected and the narrator would have to alter her way for those episodes.
