Will was the main focus once and now he has grown old and a new apprentice has risen to save the land from the enemy. Maddie slowly emerges in ranks and Will has trained her well in all the arts that were taught to him once by his master in The Sorcerer of the North and The Siege of Macindaw. King along with Princess Cassandra the heiress to the throne is trapped in the castle which means that the present and future of Araluen is in trouble.
Red Fox Clan has planned well this time because the clan has successfully trapped Gilan and Horace too and there is no one to come to the rescue of the king. But time of underestimating Maddie is over now; she will prove her worth to the king and to the enemy too in this time of great terror. She knows that her skills and powers would not be ample against the enemy so she just like her master creates a group of heroes that could help her in her mission.
Thorn, Hal and the brotherband come to her aid and they form a plan to bring the king and the princess out of the danger that has fallen on the land. John Flanagan has not lost an atom of passion since the series started long ago and though it is the third generation of Rangers the author deals with but he portrays them with the same energy.
Along with the author is the narrator John Keating who has not left the series since his debut many years ago. Together the two have been successful in portraying the Rangers and their skills to brilliance.
