Suspense and thrill slowly takes over in all of the parts of this series and the credit goes to Kathy Reichs who has introduced politics, religion and old crimes in the different parts. These flavors have kept the rating of the series higher than the average thrillers in the market.
Issue in the narration is also solved since Linda Emond has joined in as the official narrator for the series. Race Week approaches Tempe’s city and everyone is excited about it and just a day earlier a body is found. Wayne one of the crew members also comes to Tempe with a story of his own, he tells Tempe that many years ago his sister and her boyfriend disappeared during the Race Week.
No body was found and the investigation was closed forever now he thinks that the body is either of Cindi or her boyfriend. Tempe goes to the spot and finds some chemical type substance along the dead body. Among the members of the crew someone might be using deadly chemical to kill the participants but for what reason.
Case gets more confusing when the Disease Control department loses one of its employees in a mishap. There is a possibility that one of the department members is involved in the case but these are only assumptions. Lab work is more than the field work this time and we are reminded parts such as Cross Bones and Break No Bones in which Tempe was trying to solve everything in the lab. There is not much time for the crime department to catch the criminal because Race is going to start in twenty four hours, so the story provides haste to the listeners too.
