War between England and France is not a new thing for the public, all of us who have read history books now all about the dagger drawn conditions. It was England according to many that dominated most part of the battle because of its hidden group of extraordinary gentlemen. Although the main war was fought among the swordsmen but the hidden archers changed the course of almost every battle. The archers known as Harlequins were experts in their job to aim and fire at the enemy.
French were never able to detect the correct positioning of this squad ever. It is in that squad of archers Bernard Cornwell the author has put a hero that is on his own mission. Thomas’ father was killed in the war by the French and he joined the army for the sake of revenge, moreover there was something in the possession of his father that got stolen. Thomas thus is looking for that precious relic too which should not be left in the hands of the enemy. Through tough situations and endless dangers the warrior moves on towards the enemy’s lines behind which lies his one true goal.
Andrew Cullum never got the opportunity to narrate The Last Kingdom and The Pale Horseman but this series is put in the showcase by his narration. The narrator knew exactly where to put the pauses in speech and when to burst in full high pitch. If you are a true fan of Cornwell just don’t leave this series in the middle or after the first part. All the parts are equally sensational and connected to the era of Edward III.
