Halloween night is all for adventure, this is one night of the year when the children start liking the mysterious things. They look into the eyes of danger and learn what fear really is. Eight children of the town gather for trick-or-treating and they decide to go on an adventure like never before.
It is the house at the edge of the town which is linked to certain mysterious things because of which not a lot of children go there. Some people think that the house is really haunted while others think that it has secrets that should not be judged or checked.
On Halloween night these children finally dare to go to that house and as a result of this, they lose one of their friends named Pip. After losing Pip they finally understand the gravity of the thing and start looking for help in a secretive way. They are fully aware that an ordinary man cannot help them so they go to Carapace i.e the most sinister man in the town.
The carapace is the only one who can get Pip back but he does not seem interested in the thing, he thinks that there is nothing in it for him. The boys convince the man into the mission which becomes life-threatening at one point. Ray Bradbury did wonderfully well in The Illustrated Man so there were a lot of expectations attached to him for this new adventure tale. Kirby Heyborne has started narrating this novel differently, it was not the usual tone of the narrator perhaps the narrator has tried to adopt a new style here.
