Adam Nevill is rightly known as the Master of Horror from Britain. This time, he comes with The Ritual horror novel, which turned out to be a fascinating experience for the book lovers. The book was declared as the winner of the August Derleth Award. The Ritual and many other novels from Adam Nevill are just about perfect for anyone who is a fan of the great Stephen King as well. A couple of good quality novels from the author are Some Will Not Sleep and No One Gets Out Alive.
The narration of The Ritual is excellently done and you will not be able to restrict yourself in praising David Thorpe for his immaculate and powerful voice.
In this novel, The Ritual, the story is of 4 old friends from university who reunites to take a hiking trip somewhere in the Arctic Circle wilderness of Scandinavia. They are no longer young now and they have very little left in them in common.
Tension started to rise just as they struggle to connect. They were extremely tired and frustrated on their hiking venture and decided to take a shortcut, which turned their hiking trip into a complete nightmare all of a sudden. The nightmare was so intense that it could have taken their lives.
Hungry, lost and surrounded all around by forest, they came across an old house in the wilderness. They found some macabre remains inside that house, which were of some pagan sacrifices and old rites. There were some unidentifiable bones and some ancient artifacts as well. In the presence of these ancient artifacts and bones, all 4 of them fell prey to it.
