The story of two true friends is well written by Elena Ferrante and narrated at a nice pace by Hilary Huber. The story shares with us a nice background of the state of Naples where the tow friends Elena and Lila joined forces in order to survive almost all the injustice that is present in the world, they suffered lawlessness and themselves broke law on more than one occasions.

The Story of the Lost Child

Their friendship was always there to help things out but as they became adults Elena moved on in her life as she married and shifted to another state where the situation was quite different as compared to Naples. The love of true friendship however forces her to return to her motherland for the sake of her friend who failed to leave the life that is full of violence and abuses of different sort.

The Story of the Lost Child

The question arises in the mid of the novel that can these two women after selecting different paths in life co-exist for one more time for the sake of their friendship as they need one another once again after a gap of many years. The novel reminds us of other books of Elena about same friendship, books like My Brilliant Friend and The Story of a New Name can be read along this one to understand writer’s point of view about true friendship and its worth in modern times.

The story as a whole is a nice work of art as the writer has used quite wonderful words for the description of the past life and its emotional connection with the present. The progress is slow but you never tend to get bored by the conclusion of the events.
