When a young woman disappears, Tracy Crosswhite was called to help solve the puzzle behind the missing person case. However, she soon finds out that this particular case is quite different from all the other missing cases she has handled in the past.
Together with The Eighth Sister and My Sister’s Grave, A steep Price is another enthralling and action-packed thriller that keeps the audience on the edge of their seat right till the very end.
Tracy’s suspicious all along was confirmed when the body is seen in an old well that was abandoned years ago. The victim tried to wriggle herself from an arranged marriage. She had plans to go through college, but that dream was cut short via a painful cruel murder. What is really not clear to Tracy is whether the murder can be directly pinned to her immediate family.
Her challenge is not just solving the mystery behind the murder. She has her own secret she is seriously trying to keep. She wants to hide her pregnancy, especially now that her job requires her to stay seriously focused at all cost. Meanwhile, Vic Fazzio, Tracy’s colleague, is taking the fall for an investigation that went wrong some time ago.
All these plots and counterplots surrounding Tracy the lead character makes this book a very interesting one. The author presented the characters in a direct manner that makes it easy to identify who is capable of what.
Nonetheless, the suspense lies in the preceding actions, as they seem never-ending. When you think everything has calmed down, the next phase of action always takes the reader by surprise. It’s an interesting book that has all the ingredients of a true action thriller.
