Get a chance to meet two characters who are just not happy with their life. They think that they are in the wrong place and this has made them think in other directions. Though both of them are fed up with their current life their approach toward is it different. Portia is a young girl from New York who does not want to live with her family anymore. She is completely tired of her life so she goes to Scotland for a change where she joins a swordmaker named Tavish.
Becoming an apprentice to Tavish brought new energy to Portia but she quickly felt that Tavish was not happy with his life as well. Though Portia started helping him in improving his business he tried to get away from her. Her shy nature of Tavish attracted the woman even more and she decided to stay with him permanently.
There was some strange kind of attraction between them which the man wanted to get away from. He was actually hiding a few secrets which Portia unveiled very quickly Alyssa Cole paints the real character of the Scottish swordmaker later in the story. He happens to be the son of a baron and he was trying to hide from fame.
Although this is a love story that lies in the category of When No One Is Watching and The A.I. Who Loved Me but here the female character helps Tavish in getting into his real role as well. Karen Chilton narrates how the young girl from New York brings Tavish out of the dungeons so that he can accept his true identity.
