Little short in length but still strong in impression this tale is about a girl who comes to the scene as an ambassador but then she is forced to change gears and becomes more of a warrior. Mahit Dzmare member of an independent post comes as an ambassador to Teixcalaan because the previous one working on that post died a few days ago. Everyone present around is certain that the man died a natural death but the situation tells an entire different tale.
Mahit knows that the imperial court has finally decided to expand its fangs to her post now and only she can plan before the invasion actually starts. But that was the reason that had the previous ambassador killed in the first place and now her life is also in danger. There happens to be another secret that is buried under her post for centuries and only she knows that the technology can bring havoc in the whole galaxy if it goes into the wrong hands.
A spell binding creation by Arkady Martine after A Desolation Called Peace that was sold like hot cakes among the fans. Amy Landon’s voice is an extra bonus with this book; the narrator is the strongest when it comes to narrating female warriors.
This is the first book of the series because of which there is some unfinished business on the secondary characters end. Their names and work is mentioned but their origin and their relation with different clans is not provided with proper introduction. Perhaps in the later stages we would see some of the secondary characters emerging from both sides.
