Iain Reid is a young Canadian author of just 39 years of age. Within his short career, he produced some brilliant novels for the audience where Foe is quite an exciting one apart from the subject novel I’m Thinking of Ending Things. The author also won the RBC Taylor Emerging Award in 2015. Iain is the brother of the first lady of Iceland brother-in-law of the President of Iceland.
I’m Thinking of Ending Things is a fictional novel with an exciting tale. The narration of this novel is done by Candace Thaxton. The narrator did a good job to tell this story with excellent inflection. The emotions portrayed were believable.
The book is an intensely unnerving and deeply scary one. Jake and a lady known by the name of “The Girlfriend” only were on a drive to their parents at a secluded farm. But when Jake left The Girlfriend stranded somewhere near an abandoned school, then the things that follow were quite dark, scary, and unraveling. It was an exploration of the psychological frailty and a highly suspenseful ending. You will be haunted for most of its narration. It could be a great experience for fictional lovers looking for a mixed bag of things.
The story seems to be confusing for some listeners. It does have a twist in the tale but somewhat not easy to pick where it was. It will be OK to say that the plot of this novel had some flaws. As this is the debut novel of the author, and by that standard, it is still quite acceptable. The narration in this chapter was quite powerful and it was hard to find any flaw there.
I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS- Fantastic listen. It is definitely not going to be a book that everyone will like. I personally loved it and will most likely buy the book. I do think it should have some sort of (?) warning . If you are feeling depressed it is not a book to listen to at that time. It is extremely thought provoking and a read you just have to trust will all come clear in the end. Thanks so much for making this audio book available. It will stay with me for quite awhile. Highly recommend for those who like more independent rather than best seller block buster type stuff, that is so common. It has been made into a movie and I personally won’t bother watching. The book is always better. One of THE best psychological horrors I have read.
