An amazing start to a wonderful series by J.D. Robb that has thrill and sex scenes in abundance. The plot is strong and the characters are strong in their motives but not so strong in their emotions when it takes over. Eve Dallas a police officer by profession is on a hunt for a killer that has become a pain for the whole department. She as an experienced officer is charged with the duty but her personal desires seem to take over every time she meets Roarke.
The Irish billionaire is too hot to resist and his charm makes Eve forget all about the case whenever they meet and though he appears to be a prime suspect Eve fails to arrest him. Each time she moves closer to the man there is an attraction and temptation that she cannot get out of.
Thus investigation takes her in the arms of a person that could be a threat to her own life as well. The emotions are superbly portrayed not only by the writer but also by Susan Ericksen the narrator of the novel.
Especially the sex scenes are given an awesome sound to show the craze of Eve about the suspect whom she is sent to arrest. It’s a wonderful drama that leaves two things hanging in balance, one, of course, is the duty call and second the personal urges. We see such situation in several other works of the writer as well, books like Glory in Death and Immortal in Death also follow the same sort of themes and the nature of the characters. The storyline however is always new.
