Patricia Cornwell is a fantastic writer who has got all the skills and talent to produce the most mind-blowing mystery thrillers ever. Her character of Scarpetta is an absolute genius when it comes to investigating the most daunting murders where small clues could only lead to the culprit. Point of Origin is the 9th chapter of the Scarpetta novel series. The author Patricia Cornwell has done some amazing work in many of her other bestselling novels. A couple of her promising and popular novels are Cruel and Unusual and Quantum: A Thriller.
In chapter 9, Patricia Cornwell decided to pair up with Karen White for an audio performance. C. J. Critt in the prior novels of the saga did a good job, while she received a few negative reviews for her pauses and seemed to be feeling out of breath at times. Karen White failed to create an impression here as her performance was flat and she sounds quite sad and low with energy.
The story starts with the mentioning of Carrie Grethen who is a known convicted serial killer who managed to escape from a psychiatric ward of the hospital. The serial killer escaped with the intention of revenge. Scarpetta was quite shaken and vary due to this development. She also had to investigate another case where an unknown woman died due to fire. The post mortem of this case revealed that the unknown woman was stabbed first before the fire took hold. Soon, Scarpetta along with her team was called to another crime scene where another killing happened due to fire.
The storyline as expected from Patricia Cornwell was great. The character of Scarpetta was as strong and exciting as ever. The narrator Karen White however needs to do a lot better if she is chosen again for narrating any other book in this series or elsewhere.
Nobody can do these books justice. C. J. Critt ruined the rest for me. I’m so sad because I fell in love with those voices the characters they became. I feel cheated trying to get used to this new one. I don’t like her much not enough change in the voices.
