David Baldacci’s exciting new thriller is sure to rock you to the core as minute happenings take us to momentous things that have been one of writer’s trademarks over the year. The new thing about the story is that it’s about the life of a rookie who starts his job and on the first mission makes a mistake that becomes so devastating that it destroys the whole life of a person who perhaps never committed the crime.
This fifth one in the series takes us to the past from the present as Amos Decker meets a man in his hometown whom he got arrested in his first mission when he was just a rookie, the person over a long period of imprisonment still wants to prove that he was innocent the whole time and as Decker investigates this dead case once again he to his surprise finds some links of that old case to the present which makes it more interesting and important for him at the same time.
The novel shows the intense feelings of a man who has the guilt of a wrong doing related to his past life and wants to resolve the case so that the true criminal could be punished and Meryl Hawkins can finally be proved innocent though he had beard all the punishment.
The unfolding of the story is quite wonderful as this has been writer’s skill which can be analyzed in other books like Long Road to Mercy and The Fallen. Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy have narrated this thriller in a passionate way and no doubt the story needed such enthusiasm from the narrator because in this way it appears to be more appealing
