Becky Chambers is a known author and those who don’t know much about authors’ work in the past should start with this series in particular. This specific series displays the themes which the author usually selects and then there are A Closed and Common Orbit and A Psalm for the Wild-Built designed especially for the fans. Wayfarer ship and its crew go on a mission for the first time during the series in this first episode but we are told by the author that this is not their first voyage in space.
The Wayfarer happens to be an old ship that has performed a number of suicidal missions before. The ship has a crazy pilot and the captain of the ship is perhaps crazier. Then there are two engineers who are always busy with certain odd experiments with the ship.
Rosemary Harper is new to the ship and she was actually trying to find an escape from her previous life that’s why she joined this odd troop. She is not passionate about the missions but she still finds the entire crew quite fascinating. However, one thing which she wasn’t ready for was a suicidal mission.
The team is asked a job of tunneling wormholes in outer space which it readily accepts because it was linked to serious money. Rachel Dulude narrates how the main character Rosemary starts finding out the true craziness of the crew of Wayfarer for the first time. The crew accepts a suicidal mission without a second thought. The captain doesn’t even pay attention to the physical condition of the ship before accepting the task that is assigned.
