Claiming My Place: Coming of Age in the Shadow of the Holocaust

Planaria Price and Helen Reichmann West have correctly described this true story with all the needed tools. The story moves on two levels one is the quest of a Jew to regain freedom for herself in this world and second is the determined nature of a woman in society who one way or the other fights for the thing that is hers. Garcia the Jew in the story is presented as an ambitious girl who possesses high hopes about her future life, but all dreams perish in front of her eyes when her country is attacked by the Nazis and they snatch everything from her including her family, friends and her future for which she was desperate about right from the childhood.

The horror of death is behind her like a shadow all the time, still, she manages to make the impossible into reality. She changes her appearance and name as well leaves her Jewish background temporarily mixes herself up with Americans with a little help from her beauty charm as well. The story greatly impresses us when we think of it as a true story. The zeal that we observe in Gucia and her will to survive when there is nothing left for her in life is a rare thing in the current era.
Thus she survives not only from the holocaust only but also from the psychological fear and terror that the Nazis inculcated in the hearts and minds of the Jews during the Second World War. She dies a natural death after achieving everything she dreamed of since she was six. IIyana Kadushin’s, narration is excellent and according to the circumstances of the story.
The horror continues as you may listen to the other books with more horror-filled, thrilling stories inside like Dune, Twilight and Breaking Dawn.
