Robert Dugoni’s true colors as a novelist who can thrill you with his thriller can be seen in this particular tale that is written in a well calculated manner, also the scenes are complete and the characters are mature. There appears to be no weakness in the plot as well. Edoardo Ballerini has strengthened the whole novel with supreme narration which is full of high pitched dialogues and sounds.
The novel will give you everything whether you are looking for a spy story or want to see some treachery that can twist the story this book is the right choice to make. The old man in action is what the story starts with when Charles Jenkins is given another assignment in his retired years by his chief and the old man readily agrees to it as he was in need of money with all his business going down and failing to meet the family needs.
Charles goes to Russia in order to find the one who is becoming a threat for the people in the CIA he finds out that the one who is called the eighth sister is not what she was supposed to be or at least the way he was told by his chief. Instead of reaching the target and getting the job done Jenkins is entrapped by the Russian officer and though he manages an escape his own agency became his enemy and he was left helpless with the life of his whole family on the line.
The description of a sixty year old trying to save his family by implying the skills that he had under his sleeve is just awesome and the novel has more turns and twists if we compare it with other novels like My Sister’s Grave and A Steep Price by the same author. The battle for survival and the race against time are excellently knit along with the emotions of an old man who is trying to save the family with least of support.
