Another ghost chase for detective D.D. Warren as she tries to solve another mystery with no clue at all. It’s after a while that we find more thrill in the novel as compared to mystery and suspense. Charlene Grant comes to Warren because she thinks that she is going to die after four days. Her friends have died in previous years one after the other at the coincidence is that they have died on the same day and same time.
This means that it is her turn now to be slaughtered by the hands of the same killer. Who is doing all this and why she cannot tell because she does not have a clue. The only thing she knows that the people from her past are vanishing someone is after all of them.
The mission of the killer is about to complete because she is the last one of her friends. The good thing about Charlene is that she is not the type who will run away from a battle. She has fully prepared herself, she knows all the arts of fighting and self defense and at the same time she has police protection. We don’t see fighting spirit usually in Lisa Gardner’s characters except D.D. Warren but this time she meets a woman with same spirit. We have seen women in other stories like The Neighbor and Find Her but they were not that daring sort. D.D Warren makes things difficult for Charlene as instead of just protecting her she starts questioning her as well.
Warren is of the view that the daring woman is hiding something quite bigger than their expectations. Or perhaps she is just faking everything in order to knit a bigger plan by keeping herself safe in police custody. Kirsten Potter’s narration has improved a lot as compared to the last one. This time it is a brilliant performance by the narrator with not even a slight mistake.
