After surviving her third assassination attempt, Alshari court wizard Pentandra sends her deputy, Sir Rondal, to investigate the mysterious attack while she contends with palace intrigue. Matters escalate when Rondal and Kitten rescue an elderly woman and her grandson from execution, discovering she is the lost hedgewitch who gave Pentandra a book of cryptic prophecies.
Tensions seemingly abate when the Duke and Duchess announce the court will relocate for the summer season to Vorone. Pentandra looks forward to managing her lands in peace, safely distant from assassins and undead. However, her friend Minalan the Spellmonger also takes the summer off, dumping leadership duties on her overburdened shoulders while he embarks on an expedition. What could go wrong?
