Matthew Betley works has always been a fine selection if you want to enjoy mysteries and thrillers on the weekend. The writer properly chooses a person and his profession than paints not only its personality but also its fate as well in an awesome way. The Logan West series is one such series that reminds us of books like Rules of War that gained so much fame in the past. George Newbern’s narration is a nice addition to this fine start of a brilliant series. Logan after retirement wanted a leisure life but everything got ruined for the poor chap and he became a town drunk.
This too failed to decrease his tensions as an international mafia pounces on him in order to kill him. Not only this they possess a clue of his lost wife as well and at the same time they are planning to start a conflict between America and Iran. Thus it is patriotism mixed with the feelings of love for his wife that draws him out of the shackles of alcoholism. A race against time for the old marine starts once again as he is ready to do whatever it takes to bring that mafia down. The mafia too wants to settle a score with the Logan and it seems that he possesses something which they need.
Thus the first mission starts somewhere in the Middle East where he joins his former friend John Quick as well and the two set on a mission they cannot resist. The story is loaded with everything one can imagine personal motives, war against terror and a flavor of romance.
