Sarah J. Maas (born 1986) is one of the most popular young adult fantasy authors today. Based in New York City, she began writing at the age of 16. After graduating from the University of Southern California, she pursued writing more seriously.

Her most acclaimed fantasy series to date are:

Throne of Glass series (8 books) – This epic tale follows the journey of assassin Celaena Sardothien, the kingdom’s most feared killer, as she competes in a contest to become the king’s champion. Over 4,000 pages, Celaena battles rivals, uncovers political conspiracies, leads armies, finds romance, discovers magic abilities, and unravels mysteries about her forgotten past. Characterized by sweeping world-building and heart-pounding action.

A Court of Thorns and Roses series (5 books) – A loose fairy tale retelling that draws elements from Beauty and the Beast. The story tracks huntress Feyre as she is brought into the magical faerie lands of Prythian and discovers her destiny there, surrounded by intriguing characters like the morally gray High Lord Tamlin. More atmospheric and steamy than Throne of Glass.

Crescent City series (3 books out) – Maas’s newest adult fantasy series receiving rave reviews. Follows half-human, half-sidhe Bryce Quinlan living in the richly invented futuristic city of Crescent City. As Bryce hunts a demonic killer, she confronts dangerous ancient magics and new threats. Promises to be her most expansive world yet.

Known for flawed yet relatable heroines, sweeping fantasy landscapes, intricate magic systems dotted with ancient mysteries, steamy romances, and sharp, cinematic action sequences. With over 12 million books sold worldwide, Sarah J. Maas reigns as one of fantasy’s most engaging storytellers.
