A skeleton in the closet gets the husband and wife going once again. The story takes place in Mexico this time when an old skeleton is found with a sealed pot in its one hand and a book in the other.
The book has all the information that the Mayans possessed about the human race along with links to certain powers that could easily make anyone mad with the lust. This is the first part of the series that has so many killings in it as a large number of people are killed for the lust of the books and it powers.
In the previous parts like The Kingdom and The Tombs thrill and suspense was there all the time but never have we seen so much dead bodies. We can say that its more Thomas Perry than Clive Cussler when we see the dead bodies because Perry has the tendency to make things messy in the novels. The good thing about the series is that this is the fifth part but still the husband and wife have the same enthusiasm for adventure.
However the thing that lacks is their personal life, all the parts are objective in nature we never get time to understand Sam and Remi Fargo as a perfect couple. Their family is never there with them nor they show any desire to meet the relatives.
Still there is no weakness in the storyline and the listeners never get bored when they listen to the voice of Scott Brick in every chapter. Narration is a little high pitched this time because the story involves a lot of yelling for help situation, the rest of the ingredients are the same.
