Two skeletons come up to the scene at once, one is of a boy and the other is of a girl whether the two are interconnected or not there is no clue. Both skeleton shows that the victims were teenagers but as the skeletons are not found in the same place so there is no hint that the killer is the same.
Skeleton of the teenage girl is found when an old house gets renovation and during the renovation process a secret compartment was found where among the relics and chicken bones the skeleton of the girl was laying. The other skeleton that is of a boy apparently is found by a man when he was on a stroll with his dog.
Lady that solved cases in Cross Bones and Break No Bones is called once again to play her vital role in the analysis. Local people think that all of this is the doing of devil worshippers and thus black magic is being used in the city. Tempe of course doesn’t believe in this mumbo jumbo, she knows that there is a bigger story behind all of this.
Chicken bones, relics and other things like this were only decorated on the spot so that the real cause of the murder could be buried. Kathy Reichs the author of the series is no using religion frequently in the tales, perhaps the author wants to tell us that some criminals are using religion as a smoke screen now. Linda Emond narrates with no variation in the tone, it is just one tone that starts the novel and ends it as well.
