Promises and Primroses

Mayfield men are dangerous according to many women because the family has a bad reputation when it comes to relationships. Over the years the previous two generations of the family has been indulged in bad matches and some scandals the rocked the city on several occasions. Lord Elliott happens to be the head of the family now and he thinks that they next generation should not follow the old trends and they should plan well for their future life.

However when Elliott starts analysing the current situation of the family he is shocked to know that the condition of the family is not very different at all. So he starts a marriage campaign which is not appreciated by the nephews and nieces who are living under his supervision.

Peter for example thinks that marrying a second time in life is not a good idea and all his two daughters need now is a governess who can look after them and that’s all. Julia the new governess is young and attractive, she takes care of Peter and his daughters in a nice way.

Julia’s mother thinks that she has to be quite careful because her own experience with Elliott has not been a nice one in the past. Josi S. Kilpack plays with the past and present of the leading family in the novel. Narrator Justine Eyre has handled this past and present leap with full command. As compared to Miss Wilton’s Waltz this one is much better in terms of story and the development of the characters. In the beginning there are many characters and later the story just focuses a few of them.
