Revenge, hate, and particularly love have been the chief themes of these stories by Julie Garwood. The era is always the same and the location is the Highlands of course because these two things appealed to the author as well. The era of the Scottish warriors has inspired the author to a large extent and that inspiration is at the base of every story. Princess Gabrielle happens to be a lady who likes her freedom and she does not want anyone to come in her way ever.
Things have changed since she was a child and her land is not safe anymore because of the warriors who just keep on coming from the Highlands. Her father i.e the king wants to use his daughter for a decent bargain. He wants his daughter to marry a Highlander so that his alliance with their kingdom can make them appear stronger in front of the enemy. Gabrielle never wanted to marry for mere politics and she was sure that she could handle her issues with an iron fist as she was not weak in decision making like her father.
Her father, on the other hand, does not allow her the decision making power and she is asked to prepare herself for the marriage. A few days before the marriage Gabrielle’s act of courage starts a new battle among the clans. This time she meets the warrior of her dreams on the battlefield as well so their love story starts.
Ransom was also about a girl who found love in the form of a warrior and then The Wedding also introduced us to wonderful female characters. This is the way that the author uses to display her characters. The story is not about a happy married life rather love is found on the battleground all the time.
